Hey guys! It's been a long time. The fact that I haven't updated the blog since January does not reflect well upon me, but I promise that the things I've been busy with have actually pertained to movies! Yes, it's true!
So here's the big news: next semester, I will be the president of the Film Liberation Unit at U of L! I may have mentioned it before, but the Film Liberation Unit is a branch off the Film Committee dedicated to showcasing indie, foreign, or otherwise unusual film! While we are student-run, all of the city of Louisville is invited to check out our movies in the Floyd Theater! This semester, we hosted many cool events: -Experimental artist Robert Beatty showed his video and music works live. -We had a showcase of international film by female directors; these included Vera Chytilova's Daisies (one of my all-time favorites!), Valeska Grisebach's Western and Vivian Qu's Angels Wear White. -We screened Hong Sang-soo's On The Beach At Night Alone. -We hosted an experimental showcase featuring 16mm prints of Kenneth Anger's Scorpio Rising, Marie Menken's Go! Go! Go!, and Nathaniel Dorsky's Autumn. So I ask of you, dear reader, this vital question-- what are some movies you wish you could see on a big screen, but you aren't ever given the opportunity to screen? These are the kinds of movies the FLU wants to bring to you! Follow us on Facebook or Twitter! https://www.facebook.com/filmliberationunit/ https://twitter.com/UofLFLU
